Our structure

The Intangible Patrimony Management Unit is formed by the Coordination Unit; three Support Units and four Operative Units. Their staff will be selected under the norms that regulate the administrative staff recruitment of the Universidad de Los Andes. There will be a confidential clause within the employment contracts that the staff of the unit should sign, unless the opposite is intentionally stipulated. The Head of UGI ULA will write the already mentioned clause and will inform the worker about it at the moment he is hired.

Our General Coordination Unit

The General Coordination Unit is a universal agency represented by the General Coordinator who will be designated by the Rector of the university.

Our Support Units

The Support Units are composed by the Innovation Technic Commission, the Secretarial Support Unit and the Administrative Unit.

Our Technic Commission of Innovation

The UGI ULA Technic Commission of Innovation is formed by:

  • The General Coordinator or Head of The Intangible Patrimony Management Unit of the Universidad de Los Andes, who will also be its president.
  • The Head of Attention and Document Processing Unit.
  • The Head of the Publishing and Protection Unit (Marketing).
  • The Head of the Technic and Strategic Studies Unit (Transfer of Technology).
  • The Head of the Legal Advice Unit.
  • A representative of the General Coordinator of the Scientific, Humanistic, Technologic and Artistic Development Board. (Spanish acronym: CDCHTA).
  • A representative of the Formulation, Interface, Rheology and Process Laboratory of the Universidad de Los Andes.
  • The Head of the Consultancy and Projects of Intellectual Property Unit (Spanish acronym: Un©oPPI) of the Faculty of Politic and Legal Sciences. And any other specialist considered necessary to serve as adviser for the running of UGI ULA.

Our Secretarial Support Unit

Our Secretarial Support Unit is formed by a secretary and the necessary support staff. Its main aim is to give logistic support in the organization and realisation of the activities that The Intangible Patrimony Management Unit of the Universidad de Los Andes carries out.

Our Decentralized Administrative Unit

Our Decentralized Administrative Unit (Spanish Acronym: UAD): is represented by a member of the professional staff, preferably an administrator specialized in Budgetary Administration and Human Resources. This unit is in charge of the accounting records, control and custody of the budgetary and financial resources assigned by UGI ULA. The Unit is also in charge of managing the inventory of necessary materials for the correct running of the Intangible Patrimony Management Unit.

Our Operative Units

The Operative Units of UGI ULA are structured as follows: the Attention and Document Processing Unit; Technic and Strategic Studies Unit (Transfer of Technology), the Legal Advice Unit, and the Publishing and Protection Unit (Marketing). These already mentioned units will act as a team for the diverse areas of the organization and will attend a double authority: vertical or hierarchical and horizontal or technic, also directly related to the projects. The operative units seek to work the way matrix organizations tent to act.

Our Attention and Document Processing Unit

Our Attention and Document Processing Unit will be represented by a specialist lawyer or a specialist professional with proved knowledge of intellectual property. This specialist will work along with paid assistants, members of the active staff, retired staff, students and volunteers of the Universidad de Los Andes.

Our Technic and Strategic Studies Unit (Transfer of Technology)

Our Technic and Strategic Studies Unit (Transfer of Technology) will be represented by an engineer with expertise in the area of management of research, development and innovation projects.

Our Legal Advice Unit

Our Legal Advice Unit will be represented by a lawyer specialized in intellectual property or with studies or proved knowledge related to intellectual property. The representative of this unit must have experience in the management of research contracts, as well as in the management of registration and document proceeding of the industrial and intellectual rights. Likewise, the representative must be familiar with the area of the international rights of intellectual rights.

Our Publishing and Protection Unit (Marketing)

Our Publishing and Protection Unit (Marketing) will be represented by an economist, preferably with a master degree or expertise in business, marketing, and management of research projects.
